Subject: GERD
Treatment
I have been taking Prevacid® daily for several years and would
like to stop taking it. Whenever I try to cut down to every other day or every
third day, I have reflux problems. I should also tell you that I have a hiatial
hernia, which I am sure aggravates my condition.
Do you have any
recommendations for an alternative to Prevacid®?
I am a 52 year old male in
good health.
Thank you,
Mike

Thank you for your e-mail.
Yes, I do have a possible answer, Digestive
Enzymes and Probiotics.
I recommend that you take 2 Homefirst®
Probiotics with FOS capsules in the AM and PM without food. I also recommend
that you take 1 Homefirst® Digestive Enzyme capsule with meals 3 times per
day.

Dr. Eisenstein,
I
contacted you about 6 weeks ago asking how to get off Prevacid®. I had taken it
daily for several years. Your advice was do it gradually and take digestive
enzymes with meals and probiotics without food. I told you I would let you know
how things have turned out.
I have been completely off Prevacid® now for
1 month and so far so good. I'm not declaring victory yet, but I'm feeling
confident I'll have no need to go back to Prevacid® therapy. I have an endoscopy
scheduled in December. That should be a good test, although I have not had the
GERD pain that I normally experienced before Prevacid® or when I had tried to
stop taking it previously.
Thank you for your advice!
Mike
