I suffer from muscle and joint pain, can natural products bring me relief? PDF Print E-mail
Yes, many people will get relief from MSM,  Cetyl Myristoleate, Boswellia, Glucosamine, Collagen Type II, etc.

Cetyl Myristoleate

The primary component of ALL FLEX™ is cetyl myristoleate.  It is derived from an environmentally friendly source, palmitic acid (a fatty acid in coconut and palm oils).  Cetyl myristoleate is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. Additionally, it acts as a highly effective lubricant in joints, muscles and other tissues, allowing them to move more smoothly. It is also an immune system modulator which can be effectual against auto-immune conditions. All of these characteristics contribute to its ability to act as an analgesic by removing the source of pain (inflamed and irritated tissues) so that there is no pain impulse.

In the Journal of Rheumatology. 01-APR-2004; 31(4): 767-74

WJ Kraemer, et.al., studied and found that...

“Effect of a cetylated fatty acid [CFA] topical cream on functional mobility and quality of life of patients with osteoarthritis.”

CONCLUSION: Use of a CFA topical cream is an effective treatment for improving knee ROM [range of motion], ability to ascend/descend stairs, ability to rise from sitting, walk and sit down, and unilateral balance.

Collagen Type II

Is a dietary supplement that supports skin, joint and connective tissue health.  It is naturally rich in Hyaluronic Acid (HA) a Cartilage Matrix Glycoprotein (TMGP), powerful substances that help protect the Cartilage from breakdown and promote cartilage synthesis.

In the journal Arthritis Rheum. 1998 Feb;41(2):290-7.

ML Barnett, et al., studied and found...

“Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with oral type II collagen [CII]. Results of a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.”

...CONCLUSION: Positive effects were observed with CII at the lowest dosage tested, and the presence of serum antibodies to CII at baseline may predict response to therapy. No side effects were associated with this novel therapeutic agent....

Glucosamine

An amino sugar normally formed in the body from glucose.  It is the starting point for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), including Hyaluronic Acid, a main constituent of joint fluid.  Glucosamine supplementation can help support the thick gelatinous nature of the joint fluid, as well as proper functioning of joints, spinal disc, and other connective tissue.

In the journal Drugs & Aging.  2003; 20(14):1041-60

AJ Matheson, et al., studied and found...

“Glucosamine: a review of its use in the management of osteoarthritis.”

CONCLUSION: In short-term clinical trials, glucosamine provided effective symptomatic relief for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. In addition, glucosamine has shown promising results in modifying the progression of arthritis over a 3-year period. Glucosamine may therefore prove to be a useful treatment option for osteoarthritis.

MSM (Methyl Sulfonyl Methane) Complex

This naturally occurring sulfur compound has a vitamin like normalizing influence on body functions.  It helps to regulate pro-inflammatory enzymes to reduce pain and swelling associated with connective tissue disfunction.

In the journal Clinical Drug Investigation 2004, vol. 24, no. 6, pp. 353-363(11)

PR Usha, et al., studied and found...

“Randomised, Double-Blind, Parallel, Placebo-Controlled Study of Oral Glucosamine, Methylsulfonylmethane and their Combination in Osteoarthritis”

...Conclusion: Glu, MSM and their combination produced an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect in osteoarthritis. Combination therapy showed better efficacy in reducing pain and swelling and in improving the functional ability of joints than the individual agents.

Boswellia

This naturally occurring substance comes from the Boswellia serrata tree that grows in the dry hills of India. Preparations made from a purified extract of this resin are used to reduce inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Unlike conventional NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, boswellia has no known side effects and doesn't seem to cause stomach irritation. It also may be effective for back pain and certain chronic intestinal disorders.

In the journal Phytomedicine. 2003; 10(1):3-7

N. Kimmatkar, et al., studied and found that...

“Efficacy and tolerability of Boswellia serrata extract [BSE] in treatment of osteoarthritis of knee--a randomized double blind placebo controlled trial.”

BSE is recommended in the patients of osteoarthritis of the knee with possible therapeutic use in other arthritis.
